Abstract: It does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
AI Format: Adobe Illustrator Artwork file. This graphics file format is a creation of Adobe systems for containing vector based graphics in a single page.
Alpha: The alpha channel is a color component that represents the degree of transparency (or opacity) of a color (i.e., the red, green and blue channels). It is used to determine how a pixel is rendered when blended with another.
Amblem: a heraldic device or symbolic object as a distinctive badge of a nation, organization, or family.
Animation: the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence.
Antialiasing: Anti-aliasing is the smoothing of jagged edges in digital images by averaging the colors of the pixels at a boundary.
Asymmetry: Asymmetry is the lack of symmetry or equality between halves of your design. While both halves of a symmetrical design will be the same (or similar), both halves of an asymmetrical design will be different.
Advertising: Advertising is a marketing communication that employs an openly sponsored, non-personal message to promote or sell a product, service or idea.
Advertising agency: advertising agency is a business dedicated to creating, planning, and handling advertising and sometimes other forms of promotion and marketing for its clients.

B
Banner: Banners are graphic images that commonly function as Web-based billboards. Banner ads generally appear toward the top-center of the screen, and are used as attention-grabbing links to other sites.
Background: the part of a picture, scene, or design that forms a setting for the main figures or objects, or appears furthest from the viewer.
Bilboard: a large outdoor board for displaying advertisements; a hoarding.
Blending: Blending mode options. The blending modes control how the base color, the underlying color in the artwork, interacts with the blend color, the color of the selected object or group of objects.
Brief: Brief is a written legal ******** used in various legal adversarial systems that is presented to a court arguing why one party to a particular case should prevail.
Brochure: a small book or magazine containing pictures and information about a product or service.
Binding: a strong covering holding the pages of a book together.

C
CDR Format: CDR is a file format which was developed by the Corel Corporation and is used mainly for vector graphic images and drawings. The CDR file format is recognized by the majority of image editing programs.
CMYK: CMYK is a subtractive color model, based on the CMY color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself. CMYK refers to the four ink plates used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
Corporate Identity: corporate identity or corporate image is the manner in which a corporation, firm or business enterprise presents itself to the public

Diapositive: a positive photographic image on transparent material (such as glass or film)
DPI: Stands for dots per inch. Dpi specifies the resolution of an output device, such as a printer or printing press machine.

EPS Format: EPS is a file extension for a graphics file format used in vector-based images in Adobe Illustrator.
Embossing: Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs in paper and other materials.

F
Framing: framing is the presentation of visual elements in an image, especially the placement of the subject in relation to other objects.
Font: A font is a set of printable or displayable text character s in a specific style and size.
Format: Format is a standard way that information is encoded for storage in a computer file.

G
Gutter: the blank space between facing pages of a book or between adjacent columns of type or stamps in a sheet.
Gradient: Sometimes specifically called a colour gradient, gradients are a gradual change of colour or shade—for instance a red slowly fading into an orange—or a colour gradually fading into transparency. There are two types of gradients, axial/linear or radial, and both show the range of different shades and hues.
Graphic: Graphics are visual images or designs on some surface.
Graphic Designer: A graphic designer is a professional within the graphic design and graphic arts industry who assembles together images, typography, or motion graphics to create a piece of design.
Graphic design: Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem-solving through the use of typography, photography, iconography and illustration.

H
Hue: the attribute of a colour by virtue of which it is discernible as red, green, etc., and which is dependent on its dominant wavelength and independent of intensity or lightness.

I
Illustration: illustration is a decoration, interpretation or visual explanation of a text, concept or process designed for integration in published media, such as posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching materials, animations, video games and films.
Infographic: Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data, or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly.

J
JPEG: JPEG is a popular image file format. It is commonly used by digital cameras to store photos since it supports 224 or 16,777,216 colors. The format also supports varying levels of compression, which makes it ideal for web graphics.

L
Leaflet: a printed sheet of paper containing information or advertising and usually distributed free.
Lighting: Lighting or illumination is the deliberate use of light to achieve practical or aesthetic effects.
Logo: Logo is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition.
Layout: Layout refers to the arrangement of elements on a page usually referring to specific placement of image, text and style.

M
Minimalism: a movement in sculpture and painting which arose in the 1950s, characterized by the use of simple, massive forms.
Motion-Blur: Motion blur is the apparent streaking of moving objects in a photograph or a sequence of frames, such as a film or animation.

N
Nameplate: nameplate identifies and displays a person or product's name. Nameplates are usually shaped as rectangles but are also seen in other shapes, sometimes taking on the shape of someone's written name.

O
opaque: image, or graphic element that is not transparent.

P
Packaging: Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of designing, evaluating, and producing packages.
pdf format: PDF is a file format and file extension developed by Adobe that enables users to capture the native appearance of a ********.
perspective: perspective determines the intensity of the 3D effect. Think of it as a distance from the viewer to the object. The greater the value, the further the distance, the less intense the visual effect.
Picking: It is the process of choosing an area from the image.
pixel: A pixel is the smallest unit of a digital image or graphic that can be displayed and represented on a digital display device.
pictogram:A pictogram, also called a pictogramme, pictograph, or simply picto, and in computer usage an icon, is an ideogram that conveys its meaning through its pictorial resemblance to a physical object.
PNG Format: PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a file format used for lossless image compression.
pixels per inch: pixels per inch are measurements of the pixel density (resolution) of an electronic image device, such as a computer monitor or television display, or image digitizing device such as a camera or image scanner.
psd: PSD file is a layered image file used in Adobe PhotoShop. PSD, which stands for Photoshop ********, is the default format that Photoshop uses for saving data.

Q
Quadrilateral: a quadrilateral can be defined as a closed, two-dimensional shape which has four straight sides. The polygon has four vertices or corners.

R
Resolution: Refers to the sharpness and clarity of an image. The term is most often used to describe monitors, printers, and bit-mapped graphic images.
Recto: In a double-sided ********, the page that appears on the right side of the spread; an even-numbered page.
Render: A render is a rendition or draft of a project. When someone talks about render, it can mean the project’s appearance: “it’s a pencil render” means it’s a sketch. A render can also be a draft: “i’m waiting for the 3d model to render” means the computer is calculating the appearance of the model, which can include textures, lighting, transparency, etc. A “final render” is the finished project, ready to be presented, printed or shipped.
retro: Retro style is a style that is imitative or consciously derivative of lifestyles, trends, or art forms from the historical past, including in music, modes, fashions, or attitudes. It may also be known as "vintage inspired".
rgb: Red, green and blue are a monitor’s color space. Rgb is considered an additive color space, meaning to make white you add all the colors together. You view the world in rbg, not cmyk.
rgba: RGBA stands for red green blue alpha. While it is sometimes described as a color space, it is actually the three-channel RGB color model supplemented with a fourth alpha channel.

Saturation: Saturation is referred to as “intensity” and “chroma.” It refers to the dominance of hue in the color.
Sketch: rough or unfinished drawing or painting, often made to assist in making a more finished picture.
Shading: the darkening or colouring of an illustration or diagram with parallel lines or a block of colour.
Symmetry: the quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis.
Specular Reflection: also known as regular reflection, is the mirror-like reflection of waves, such as light, from a surface.

T
Target audience: A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message.
Typography: Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed.
Type Size: Type size is the dimensions of a character measured in points.

V
Visual hierarchy: Visual hierarchy refers to the arrangement or presentation of elements in a way that implies importance. In other words, visual hierarchy influences the order in which the human eye perceives what it sees. This order is created by the visual contrast between forms in a field of perception.
Visual Materials: The term visual materials encompasses a wide range of forms, including photographs, cinema and video films, videotapes, paintings, drawings, cartoons, prints, designs, and three-dimensional art such as sculpture and architecture.
