Our Oath, which we know as the Student Oath, is taught in primary schools in Turkey every morning before students enter the classroom. Our oath was first prepared by the then Minister of National Education Reşit Galip and was put into practice in 1933. Later, in 1972 and 1997, it underwent various changes and took its current form.

WHO IS REŞİT GALIP, THE AUTHOR OF STUDENT ANDI?

Reşit Galip or Mustafa Reşit Baydur, who wrote our Oath and put it into practice in 1933, was born in Rhodes in 1893. His father is Mehmet Galip Bey, one of the chiefs of the court, and his mother is Münevver Hanım from Rhodes. After completing his primary and secondary education in Rhodes, he attended high school in İzmir. He was a nationalist, ambitious, excited young man. II. Inspired by the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy in July, he published a newspaper called "Ferday-ı July" while he was in the last year of high school.

He entered the Istanbul Medical School in 1911. While he was a medical student, he published a newspaper called "Hakikat" newspaper and a cartoon magazine called "Mosquito" for his friends, as well as his articles published in various newspapers in Istanbul. He opened a branch of the Turkish Hearths at the school and undertook the inspectorship of the other military schools. While he was still a student, he voluntarily participated in the Balkan War and was injured. Then he volunteered to join the First World War; He fought on the Çatalca and Caucasus Fronts; He returned to Erzurum after getting sick. He could finish Medical School in 1917.

After graduation, he worked as an assistant at the same faculty. Reşit Galip, who published a brochure called "Mekteb-i Tıbbiye" to renew the education system that he did not like, resigned when he could not get any results.

MINISTER OF EDUCATION

The night he was at the president's table in Dolmabahçe, his criticism of the Minister of National Education, Esat Bey, caused Reşit Galip to clash with Atatürk, clouding their relationship for a short time. However, when Esat Bey resigned soon after, Reşit Galip Bey was appointed as the minister on 19 September 1932.

WHO WROTE OUR OATH


The things that Samih Rıfat Bey would do, which was held under the presidency of the Turkish Language Institution on September 26, 1932, took on this task as well as the National Education. Reşit Galip, who was inclined to vaccinate his own Atatürk style from the first day of his country, had taught the school on the morning of April 23, 1933, while the Republic was completing its 10th year, and told that Week again.
