Most Commonly Made Mistakes In Social Engineering

Let’s list the most mistakes made in social engineering...

1. Talking about something you don’t know well.

2. Repeating what is known so to make verbiage.

3. Not to stay away from astonishing and curious words.

4. To talk without being sure of what is being told, and to constantly break the deadlock in conversations to talk contradictory.

5. Immersing and exaggerating slang and immoral speech (Of course, it is said according to place, but despite everything not to be serious).

6. Using stereotypes often.

7. To put too much importance on sentences that flatter yourself.

8. Boring other side by talking theoretically.

Let’s explain these substances by giving examples.

1. Talking about something you don’t know well: When we start chatting with the victim during social engineering practice, we shouldn’t talk about a subject that we don’t know well, that we can’t completely control. If we get into a conversation like this, we need to direct the conversation towards the topics that we know better in a short period of time.

2. Repeating what is known so to make verbiage: If we don’t have a very good vocabulary we always repeat what we say while doing social engineering. The only way out of this is to practice a lot and improve ourselves. So when we are in contact with the victim, we have to choose the words we say / use well and use them properly.

3. Not to stay away from astonishing and curious words: In social engineering, when we are in contact with the victim, we must use fascinating words. Because of this method, the victim’s confidence to us increase and at the same time the conversation goes further. For example, when talking to an organization manager (in any part of the scenario), we should be amazed at what he says so he can keep talking. It’s one of the indispensable aspects of social engineering is an amazed look and a curious attitude.

4. To talk without being sure of what is being told, and to constantly break the deadlock in conversations to talk contradictory: While doing social engineering, we should take a confident attitude in our conversations with the victim and at the same time, we need to draw conversations to where we are going to fit the script or to achieve the goal with an improvised script at that moment. This will restore and strengthen the victim’s trust in us. If we can’t, we must constantly change the subjects (must be connected with the purpose) and drag them into the subjects we dominate.

5. Immersing and exaggerating slang and immoral speech: The last thing we do when we are in conversation with the victim at the moment of social engineering practice is to speak slangly and indecently with the victim. Because it would break any connection between us and the victim. But at the moment of conversation there should be little jokes so that the tension of the environment decreases (if any).

6. Using stereotypes often: This line is actually almost same as the 2. Line (Repeating what is known so to make verbiage). Because in both, there are lots of words and a lot of use of the words that are used. The stereotypical word is used in the meaning of “ non-changeable”, “non-originality”, “as seen from others without a thought on it”, “blindly ordinary”. But here, it is used to mean “ non-changeable”. Because there is continuity and repetition.

7. To put too much importance on sentences that flatter yourself: We shouldn’t praise ourselves at the moment of speaking to the victim at the moment of social engineering practice. The victim may be anxious to us and if this anxiety occurs, we won’t achieve our goal. That’s why we shouldn’t be “SELF”ish.

8. Boring other side by talking theoretically: It’s one of the most common mistakes in social engineering. Because that makes the victim suspicious to us, if there is doubt, it increases suspicion. We shouldn’t let the victim know we are too knowledgeable in conversation. We need to talk very calmly and normally.

The conversation that appeals to the mind is simply listened to. The speech appeals to the mind and heart is admired.

Good Day.
