to know someone or something like the palm of one's hand

-English meaning:
to know someone or something well

-Turkish meaning:
*Birisini veya bir şeyi çok iyi bilmek.
**Birisini veya bir şeyi elinin avucu gibi bilmek.

-Examples:
Bill knows this city like the palm of his hand.

Of course I know John. I know him like the palm of my hand

not long for this world.

-English meaning:
to be about to die.

-Turkish meaning:
ölümü yakın, ölmek üzere.

-Examples:
I'm so tired. I think I'm not long for this world.

Our dog is nearly twelve years old and not long for this world.

Updating this thread in everyday is good actually, but i don't think that people check this page regularly because of narrow info, so i think you should write more informative threads which help people how they learn how to speak or read in English, you know, but still doing this job is brilliant..

Hello, I appreciate your opinion about my study on idioms. I understand what you mean. What I am trying to do is like fishing; we can see English learners here as fish who are struggling to learn more. And this topic is my bait by which I can catch these people on my hook and give them more.
Shortly, English cannot be learned without learner's effort, if he/she wants learn, he/she needs to put his/her best on this. :)
