What is Keylogger?
Keylogger, which can also be called spyware or monitoring software, is simply the name given to software that monitors every click you make on the keyboard. In fact, the basis of such software is to secretly monitor the keys on your keyboard. In this way, the people behind this monitoring software can see what you type on the keyboard and secretly track your movements.
Keylogger software has two different uses. The software that can be used by one of the people at their request, if it is small, is software that has been installed with malicious intent. In your mind, “Why would people want to use software like this?” If the question aroused, you might think of wanting to finish it off to find out what your child can do on the computer. This may represent the innocent face of Keylogger software.
The innocent and illegal side of the keylogger is the type of software that malicious people track your computer without your knowledge. If such software is available on your computer, the software will start working as soon as you turn on the computer. After this stage, the information you enter on the Internet or in any program during the day, such as your account information, internet searches, credit card information, will be transmitted directly to the other party.
How dangerous is the keylogger?
Even though it's like simple software, Keylogger is one of the scariest spyware ever. So much so that the versions of Keylogger software, which plan their movements in advance while in a world, have started to appear. This makes this type of software ultra-dangerous.
Since such software monitors your keyboard movements and records the screen, it is easy to see which password belongs to which account. Therefore, the other party can access your accounts more easily. So how serious is this situation?
If someone finds out about your email account password, credit card information, private and non-shared personal data, etc., they can use them against you and try to take large sums of your money. In addition, they can use your identity on illegal platforms by identity theft, and this can cause great trouble for you.
How does the keylogger infect the computer?
There are different ways to infect a computer with Keylogger. As we said before, sometimes users can install the Keylogger software on their computers voluntarily, but we do not consider it appropriate to name them. Because when you install such programs on your computer from the internet, the probability of you inadvertently installing a malicious software is over 90 percent.
Keylogger software basically reaches your computer like any other malware. In other words, you open a file sent to you or downloaded to your computer, upload a Keylogger software to the system, and hand it over to the person who sent you this file. This file can reach you via e-mail, text document, P2P networks or a social media messaging tool, and once you open these files, if your computer is not protected, it may be too late for everything.
Some websites may become suspicious due to viruses loaded into them. This is usually due to Keylogger-style viruses installed inside the sites. If you enter such a site, Google usually warns you, but if you insist on entering the site, you can also get malware from such sites.
