Brain storm (Brainstorming) is a method used for problem solving and reaching the most accurate solution.





Brain storm : When persons get together and exchange ideas with eachother by explaining their ideas without controversy.
Simply; it's a tool for us to create ideas to think effectively and creative.
Brain storm is a technique that collaborates formal and uncomfortable attitude with horizontal thinking to solve problems. It encourages the person to find thoughts and ideas that look crazy.

This method that appeared in 1930's, In 20th century, it was further developed by the American advertiser Alex Osborn and used effectively in the complexity of life and education system. It is accepted as a technique used for students and individuals to create different alternative, effective solutions against problems.



Brain storm can be performed both personally and as a group.


Personal brain storm; it's a method that individual performs on it's own. It has been discovered that it produces effective and good idea. It's effective at solving basic problems, creating an idea list, focusing more detailed about the topic.

It's required to choose a comfortable environment and get rid of all distracting factors. We need to present more ideas about a problem by focusing on the problem. For this, Mind Map method can be applicable.

Group Brain Storm : It's done via sharing ideas that are developed by group members. Because everyone w,şş be solution focused, there will be most effective ideas in less time.
For Group Brain Storm: Group is prepared. Problem is told. Discussion is forwarded by group leader.



Advantages

Ideas are told specifically and without hesitation.
New ideas are produced by group members presenting their ideas to each other.
Different perceptions appear.
Team work is strengthened.

Brain storm is made of two fundamentals as generating ideas and ideal evaluating.



Things to be careful of.

Persons level and their sufficiency is important. The members that will be taken to the group, needs to be chosen according to this.
Individuals shouldn't face a problem that they cannot think of.
In this method, before generating ideas about the problem the topic should be presented specifically and clear
Before beginning the discussion, it's beneficial to pick 1-2 persons for them to take notes.
In groups it's necessary to have a efficient leader that will moderate the discussion..



During application;

The goal of the discussion should be explained and the problem needs to be expressed clearly.
Group needs to be between 6-12 members.
A time should be determined and solutions should be criticized.
It's required to be careful when criticizing, not every idea should evaluated as illogical, stupid, crazy and should be accepted. Let's not forget, criticizement is valuable when it's constructive.
During the meeting there shouldn't anything that disrupts the comfort like (recording, screenshot etc.) devices, individuals ( free environment )
In the end of the discussion, all ideas are criticized and analyzed with respect, evaluated and there will be a solution. (amount)
Looking at the datas that are obtained through the result of activity, it's decided whether the discussion will continue or not.(cross- development).
