The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has suffered a massive cyberattack.
The ICRC announced that it was exposed to a large-scale and sophisticated cyber attack, and the personal data of more than 515,000 individuals was stolen.
The Red Cross, which works for victims of war, detainees and disappeared around the world, has called for those who steal data not to leak this information or share it with anyone.
The confidential information of the people working for the Red Cross is stored by a company in Switzerland.
It was reported that most of those whose private data were stolen were war victims or people who were taken hostage during wars.
HUMANITARIAN AID ORGANIZATIONS GET ALARM
Upon the theft of sensitive data, the ICRC shut down all its systems that it used to find the missing and reunite families.
There is no information yet on who carried out the cyber attack. The attack also alarmed many humanitarian organizations headquartered in Geneva.
Many organizations affiliated with the United Nations working with human rights and refugees are also located in Geneva. The systems of these institutions also contain sensitive data belonging to vulnerable people.
